Thank you so much for joining us today! Please introduce yourself!
My name is Mitch Goddard and I am just about to graduate from high school.
Tell us who you are and what you do!
I am Francesca’s best friend, and I go to high school, which is pretty much all of what I do. I don’t work – I don’t have to – and am headed to college in Boston in the fall.
Are you the main character in the story or a supporting role?
I am one of the main characters, but for me, Francesca will always be the main character in my life.
What do you do for a living?
Nothing yet. I’m not sure what I want to study in college, or what I want to do for a career, but I do know that I want Francesca beside me all the way.
How old are you?
Tell us about your story. What is it about and what role do you play?
This is Francesca’s story, mostly, and I am her best friend. Always have been, but now, I want to be more. She doesn’t know this, and I have to tell her before her jackass brother Ricky or her friend Tricia tells her. I’m just afraid she won’t love me in that way, and that it will damage our friendship. I couldn’t live without her.
Can you tell us about one of your most distinguishable features?
I don’t think I really stand out in any way. I’m pretty average looking, I guess, although Francesca says that girls look at me all the time. I don’t see it – probably because I’m always looking at her.
Do you have any birthmarks or tattoos?
My mother would have seizures if I got a tattoo. That might be a good reason to do it.
Would you ever want to go hang out with your author? If so, what would you do together?
She would not want me to get my hands on her. I mean, have you read this story?
If you could have a super power what would it be, and why?
Erasing memories. Once you read this, you’ll know why.
What is your biggest pet peeve when dealing with others?
Men who treat women like pieces of meat. Speaking of men like that, have you met Francesca’s brother, Ricky?
What would I love the most about you?
I like to buy Francesca coffee when I drive her to school every morning (I go to a different school after I drop her off). If you like coffee, that might be it.
What would I hate the most about you?
I am afraid to tell Francesca that I’m in love with her. I guess that would be cowardice – not an attractive trait in anyone.
Do you think the author portrayed you accurately?
Considering that I am based on a character in an 1899 Henry James novel who is rich but descended from a servant of royalty – well, I think she stayed true to the original as far as fate dealt him (and yes, his name is Mitchy), which doesn’t make me feel any better about my own outcome.
What is your idea of a perfect day?
Any day with Francesca.
What is your greatest fear?
Losing Francesca. Am I beginning to sound obsessed yet?
Someone is secretly in love with you. Who is it and how do you feel about that?
If it isn’t Francesca, I’m not interested.
When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Francesca and I used to watch Power Rangers. We both wanted to be the Red Ranger when we grew up, and sometimes got into physical fights over it.
If you knew you were going to die tomorrow, what would you do today?
Spend it with Francesca. Yes, I know that I really sound obsessed right now, but it can’t be helped.
What is the one food you can’t live without?
I love chicken with broccoli. If I ever see another slice of pizza again, though, it will be too soon.
If they turned the book into a movie, who would be cast to play you?
Drew Seeley. I’m pretty sure there are pictures of him on the Reckless Treasure Pinterest board. I think the author is pretty set on that, while she’s a little schizophrenic about the casting for Francesca and Tricia.
